Some have called The Gospel According to Mark a passion narrative with a long introduction, acknowledging that Mark gives a disproportionate amount of time to the final week of Jesus’ life. This focus will allow us to emphasize the cross and the fact that Jesus came to seek and save the lost. All in all, Mark acts as a very comprehensive discipleship manual that exalts the servant King, Jesus and invites us to follow him.
In this sermon, Darrell teaches from Matthew 11:25-30, pointing us to the rest and peace we can find in Jesus. Recorded live from the Hillsong Convention Centre in Sydney, Australia.
In this session from XY Conference 2024, Darrell Johnson preaches from Philippians 2:5-11 on adopting the mind of Christ. Through the message, Darrell highlights this text as the interpretive centre of the Bible - through which we can make sense of who God is, and who we are as His image bearers. How can we adopt the mind of Christ? Darrell teaches on the call to live in unity we find in Philippians 2:5-11. This call to unity is not a call to conformity, but rather an invitation to the very oneness we see in the Trinity. As we work through the text we see that the path to oneness is to follow Jesus into humility as the gospel frees us from competition and the need to prove ourselves worthy. In this sermon, Darrell provides an introduction to the last book of the Bible: The Revelation of Jesus Christ.
People In Sync | Week 9 | In this sermon, Darrell works through the eighth and final Beatitude of Jesus found in Matthew chapter 5. This beatitude addresses the “persecuted blessed.” To be in sync with Jesus and His kingdom means we can expect to be treated the way Jesus was treated. Followers of Jesus can anticipate opposition, even persecution because they crave right-relatedness with him. Darrell asks, “If the world system, secular or religious, could not handle Jesus doing his gospel - what’s going to happen to those who go carry this same message ?” This sermon closes with three words of encouragement in the face of persecution from Jesus, as he promises “theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven”
People In Sync | Week 8 | In the seventh beatitude — blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. Jesus, the Prince of Peace, invites us — ordinary, broken people, to become partners in his divine work of making shalom in the city. We are called to make a fresh commitment to our gospel vocation to be peace-makers, not just seekers, lovers, or keepers, but makers. As Darell expressed, Jesus bestowed on us incredible dignity to be peacemakers.
